- . 6 – 8 washed receiving blankets
- 6 – 8 clean towels
- 10 clean washcloths (adult size) (old used ones)
- crock pot or large bowl with hot water for warm compresses
- oil for perineum (olive, almond, or sesame)
- 1 roll of paper towels
- large bottle of hydrogen peroxide (used for cord care and postpartum cleanup)
- small bottle of alcohol
- Q-tips for cord care
- Heating pad to warm baby receiving blankets
- 1 tall trash can with plastic bag liner (kitchen size)
- 1 laundry basket
- flashlights with extra batteries
- your favorite juices and electrolyte replacement to drink during labor (Coconut Water)
- healthy food and snacks to feed laboring mom, dad, midwife, assistants and other guests
Additional preparations:
- Depends or Sanitary napkins – overnight protection (Kotex or Stayfree is best)
- Postpartum attire set out (comfy nursing T shirt and a couple pair of underwear
- Caretaker for other children
- Camera and/or video equipment (extra batteries- birth energy can drain batteries)
- Completed birth plan
- Completed emergency care plan – copies taped by phone
- “Hospital bag” packed in case of transfer: Mom’s clothing, baby clothing, insurance info, birth plan, money for food
